Language, Education and the City
Korean educators and politicians alike want their students and people to speak English well. SNU encourages its faculty members to offer classes in English through various incentive measures. Newly elected government is obviousely considering a debatable programs for English education. Yet, is it just for English language skills or, more fundamentally, for English or American education? What is happening in Mid-Eastern countries imply something to this question. This trend also entails significant implication to urban planning - by usning English or adoting Western education, how much will we be accustomed to view and plan the cities and regions from Western perspectives?
